It started with #plainweavechallenge. For all that I was regularly designing complex jacquard weaves, I missed handling yarns on a real loom. I needed a way to vent my weaving craze, so I began an Instagram journey to explore the most basic woven structure: plain weave. It's the simplest of simple structures. Sounds boring? No, actually. By stripping away all the complex yarn interlockings, I could turn my focus to the other essentials of woven textile design: Density, Scale, Texture, Rhythm, & Color. But my journey has now come full circle and I'm back on the computer... transforming some of those little experiments into seamless designs or using them as jumping-off points for all new ones.
